JOURNEYMAN LODGE

DECEMBER 14-17, 2024

Journeyman Lodge is graciously hosting the first public RMC course this December with veteran instructors Jessa Gilbert, Kevin Sansalone, and John Buffery, accompanied by professional snowboarder Pat Moore. Look forward to four days of intense learning, discussion, and training in the stunning Callahan backcountry.

Please note that Journeyman Lodge is touring accessed. We’ll use a snowcat to gain elevation and move around the tenure, but you'll need to come equipped with touring skis or a splitboard and be prepared to use your skins.

The Risk Maturity course will cover:

  • Weather forecasting and avalanche hazard workflow

  • Transceiver use and training for single, multiple, and deep burials

  • Extraction digging techniques

  • Avalanche field data collection

  • Group dynamics

  • Individual and group rescue scenarios

  • And much more

Your payment includes:

  • Guest and luggage transfer to Journeyman Lodge

  • All meals for each night booked (Please let us know of dietary needs) excluding alcohol.

  • Accommodations at Journeyman Lodge (Shared rooms)

  • Snowcat transport to elevated skin track

  • Use of lodge amenities including Games Room, Scandinavian Sauna, and snowshoes

  • Guided backcountry travel and RMC course education

  • John Buffery

    FOUNDER / LEAD GUIDE

    "Buff" is the co-founder and original lead guide of Baldface Lodge, safety consultant for major films and Senior Avalanche Advisor for BC Highways. His lifetime of backcountry experience and expertise in avalanche and mountain risk management is the foundation to the Risk Maturity curriculum.

  • Kevin Sansalone

    ASSISTANT GUIDE / INSTRUCTOR

    After a massive professional snowboarding career, Kevin Sansalone continues to dedicate himself to snowboarding through guiding and creating brands within the sport. With decades of backcountry experience, Kevin is a natural educator, focused on empowering his community with the proper education.

  • Jessa Gilbert

    ASSISTANT GUIDE / INSTRUCTOR

    From Upstate NY, now residing in Squamish, BC Jessa Gilbert shares her love of the mountains through her art and guiding. As an assistant mountain guide, Jessa works at Baldface Lodge and is an ambassador for Burton and BCA.
